This a photo from the Veterans Day Commemoration held in Seattle on 11 November. I serve as the Vice Chairman of the Veterans Memorial Advisory Board and oversee the annual services for Memorial Day and Veterans Day. These commemorations are remembrances of those who have served in our Armed Forces – some who gave the ultimate sacrifice in support our country. We share a heartfelt thank you to you and your families every day as we enjoy the freedoms in America.
The landscape of America changed with the election you may disagree, or agree, with the election outcome, so I ask you as ROAL members to unite behind our military and their families and move forward as the strong LEAGUE that we can be!
Looking ahead, let us reach out to our families, our communities and reservists and guard to be involved and supportive. Our mission in the ROAL is to support the ROA and the ROA Families throughout the year. There are many needs to be addressed. ROAL supports the Fisher Houses, the VA, the USO, Reservists and their families, the STARs Program [Standing Together for America’s Reservists], the Soldier and Family Centers, and of course keeping our ROA and ROAL membership strong. ROA/ROAL is our “voice to Congress”!
I invite you to be active in the ROAL at every level of the organization. There are needs at the local Clubs and Departments as well as positions on the ROAL National Executive Board. WE NEED YOU! Volunteer! As the National President, I ask you to visit a Veterans Cemetery to be reminded of the sacrifices, and to not only honor our Veterans but to give thanks for all that they gave. Ask yourself: Where can I support the ROAL? Be proactive, reach out and give comfort to the Reserve Families.
Enjoy this holiday time with your families – rest, relax and be safe. I look forward to continuing in leading and supporting the ROAL missions in 2017.
Andrew Chumney, National ROAL President
